The SPG1A control unit produces a low voltage current that, when applied to one of our coils, will create a high voltage (approximately 8000V) spark across a suitable spark gap.
The SPG1A offers a number of benefits to the user and system designer:
Simple design; the SPG1A consists of a transformer and circuit board.
Low voltage output; no long lengths of HT cable.
CE marked for use in the EEA.
110 or 230 V ac power supply.
Choice of enclosure; either a standard enclosure or an explosion-proof enclosure for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
The SPG1A is CE marked, making it suitable for use in the EEA. It has been designed in accordance with the following harmonized standards (where applicable):
- BS EN 746-1 and 2, Industrial thermoprocessing equipment.
- BS EN 61010-1, Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use.
- BS EN 50014, Electrical equipment for use in potentially explosive atmospheres – General rules.
- BS EN 500148, Electrical equipment for use in potentially explosive atmospheres – EExd protection.
The SPG1A meet the requirements of the following EC directives (where applicable):

- Low Voltage Directive
- Machinery Directive
- ATEX Directive.
SPG1A in standard enclosure
Shown below is the external view of a SPG1A in a standard steel enclosure. All dimensions are in mm. Two 20mm cable entries are provided in the bottom face of the enclosure. The enclosure has an IP rating of 55.
SPG1A in EExd enclosure
Shown below is the external view of the SPG1A in an EExd enclosure, which is suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. All dimensions are in mm.
The enclosure is made of cast aluminium and is certified EExd IIC T6 by INIEX and it has an IP rating of 65. Two M20 cable entries are provided in the bottom face of the enclosure.
